Hiring an apprentice can help you fill a skills gap, gain a fresh perspective, retain existing staff, implement a cost-effective recruitment model, boost productivity, and much more. The program is open to anyone aged 16 and over, offering the opportunity to gain on-the-job training, study for a qualification, and earn money while they learn. An apprenticeship is an excellent way to acquire practical experience, skills, and knowledge that can be applied in your workplace.
Apprenticeships are funded at either 95 or 100% by the government. This is dependant on your company size and the age of your apprentice when they enrol. Employers with an annual wage bill of over £3 million. If this is the case, you will automatically pay into an apprenticeship levy and have access to these funds via your online Digital Account Service. If this does not apply to your business, you will log on to the Digital Account Service and reserve the funding required for your apprentice.
Currently, the Apprenticeship Wage is £4.30 per hour. The minimum apprenticeship wage applies to those aged 16-18, and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. All other apprentices should be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age, or more.
Employers can apply for a payment of £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who have an employment start date of 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2021.
They must have an apprenticeship start date of 1 April 2021 to 30 November 2021.
In addition to this there is an extra £1,000 incentive available to employers for hiring an apprentice aged between 16 – 18.
Both incentives are processed in equal payments after 3 months and 12 months.
Apprentices should work for a minimum of 30 hours a week, and a maximum of 40. Time spent off the job at a college or in training is included. Part-time apprenticeships can be arranged in special circumstances at a minimum of 16 hours per week. For example where apprentices have caring responsibilities.
We are proud to boast a roll on roll off curriculum which means all apprenticeships can begin at any point within the year.
There is no upper limit on the number of apprentices a company can employ, we would only advise that you are able to provide all with a quality experience.
