Our one-year GCSE in Biology A (Gateway Science) helps you develop your biological knowledge and scientific thinking. You will discover how key concepts in biology make sense of the observed diversity of natural phenomena. Practical skills are integrated with the theoretical topics.
You will study essential knowledge and key concepts in Biology, as well as the practical skills needed for investigative study. Topics covered include Cell biology, Genetics and Global challenges. You will develop practical skills, investigative skills, critical thinking as well as problem-solving skills through classroom learning, practical work and scientific resources.
You must be aged 19+ to enrol on this course. Entry to this course requires GCSE Combined Science or individual Science GCSEs at Grade 3, as well as a minimum of grade 6 and grade 3 in GCSE English and Maths. English and Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.
Practical assignment. Biology A (Gateway Science) consists of two examined papers that are externally assessed. Each paper is a 1 hour 45 minutes written paper (90 marks).
Successful completion of this course can lead to further study or employment.
