Start Date | September 2025 |
Our City & Guilds level 1 course gives you an introduction to the health and safety, the construction trades and the skills required to secure a job in the electrical industry. Much like plumbing, you can choose to work for yourself, installing lighting and socket circuits in homes and commercial buildings, installing electric vehicle charging points and carrying out testing and commissioning procedures on new and existing installations. You will also take advantage of learning about green skills and sustainability with a big focus on smart technology, energy efficiency and the environment, there’s never been a better time to train as a modern electrician.
We will show you how to install different types of wiring systems and connect them to a range of different equipment and appliances. You will also learn about the modern alternatives – such as Smart technology, electric vehicle charging, solar pv, wind/hydro technologies and the generation of electricity so that your skills are cutting edge and future proofed. The industry is changing so quickly, new technology is emerging, so we work with employers across Bradford to make sure what we are teaching you is fully up to date and has real value to companies when you go to work for them.
Entry to this course requires GCSE Maths and English at a grade 2 as a minimum. Please note that you will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high-visibility vest when working in the Electrical workshops. Prior to enrolment on the course, please make sure you have access to these resources.
You will demonstrate your skills in the electrical workshop and assessment centre – terminating and connecting cables, measuring, cutting and bending of PVC conduit and installing lighting and socket circuits and that start off easy, and get more and more technical. When you are ready, you will be a key player in the construction projects we run with employers in our active learning areas that simulate a real-life construction site.
Your course may include experience of work or a work placement that could lead to the offer of part-time, voluntary or casual work. You might be able to work outside of your studies. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies within the local community.
Successful completion of this course can lead to our Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation, employment or an Apprenticeship. Careers include:
