Bradford College Celebrates National Careers Week 2024
This week, the Bradford College Careers Service will join other colleges across England in celebrating National Careers Week.
The team has organised a programme of interactive events to help students learn about the full range of services provided and career choices available.
Students can use the Career Coach tool, which tells them about the local job market, salary information and the tasks involved, before exploring personality-based assessments to help identify which roles would suit their specific personality, but if they require more indepth support, the Bradford College Careers team currently provide careers guidance, advice, CV writing and employment advice support to over 4000 students.
What’s on during Careers Week?
Here’s a rundown of what students can get involved with throughout the week:
Monday – Learn about Green Careers & Green Technologies, finding out about careers in renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental management, green building & construction, climate change and environmental education.
Tuesday – Explore all the careers available in the healthcare sector at our NHS careers event. Find out all about different career paths you can access from our courses to have a rewarding career in the NHS, which employs over 1.3million people, including over 3,000 people in the local NHS trust.
Thursday – An ‘Explore Careers Event’ offers students an opportunity to participate in a number of interactive elements to explore different career options.
Friday – Students can find out about all progression opportunities, including Further Education, Higher Education, Apprenticeships and T Levels.
The Role of Careers Services in Colleges
Careers, Employability and Work Experience Team Leader, Dina Mistry, heads up the Bradford College ‘My Future Hub’ . Dina has worked at Bradford College for over four years and has, together with her team, delivered matrix accredited advice and guidance to thousands of students.
“Careers advice and guidance is crucial for helping students explore their career options, set goals and navigate the job search process. By providing good quality support and resources, we can help students embark on fulfilling and rewarding careers.”
Careers teams can provide expert advice and guidance on:
Career pathways: Many students are unsure of what career path to choose. Careers advice and guidance helps them explore various career options based on their interests, skills, and values.
Goal Setting: Setting clear career goals is essential to stay motivated and focused throughout college. Careers advisors can help set realistic and achievable career goals based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.
Skill Development: Colleges offer various opportunities for students to develop essential skills relevant to their chosen field, and careers advice and guidance services help students identify the skills they need and provide resources, workshops, and training programs to enhance those skills to help them become more competitive.
CV building and job search: Writing a strong CV and starting a job search can be daunting, but the team helps students with all of this, together with interview preparation, to help students present themselves effectively to potential employers. They also provide guidance on job search strategies, networking and internships to secure valuable work experience.
If you’re a current student at Bradford College, why not pop down to the My Future Hub on the Ground Floor of David Hockney Building?
