Coming as the showstopper in the Bradford School of Art’s ‘Cultural Careers Week’, BBC TV’s ‘Glow Up’ came to Bradford College today.
As part of the special visit, students and staff were invited to an exclusive screening of the first episode of ‘Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star’ Series 6.
This was followed by a special Q&A with Val Garland (series judge), Sarah Agbiji (MUA) and Leah Caffery (series producer). Those in attendance were given a peek behind-the-scenes of the hit TV series, as well as being treated to a masterclass in make-up on our very own volunteer model, Lucina Edden.
Series 5 contestant and professional make-up artist, Sarah Agbiji, said this about our students: “I love how enthusiastic, cheerful and excited the students are!”
“In today’s society with social media, where you see people making it from such a young age and you’re constantly comparing yourself, seeing people still have that dream and their eyes lighting up is amazing.”
“Growing up, make-up wasn’t an industry pushed to me by my parents and so showing these young people there are creative routes that you can chase and succeed in means the world to me. It is possible.”

‘Glow Up’ recently returned for a sixth series, this time hosted by Leomie Anderson, and arrived at Bradford College alongside the Bradford City of Culture team with this unique insight for our students.
The event was just the latest instalment in a full catalogue for the Bradford School of Art’s ‘Cultural Careers Week’, aiming to shine a light on the industry and the various opportunities available to our talented students. Throughout the week, they’ve been treated to a bumper schedule of guest experts delivering valuable workshops and talks in their area of expertise.
Like Sarah Agbiji, ‘Glow Up’ judge and global make-up icon, Val Garland, said: “Do whatever brings you joy and if it doesn’t bring you joy, throw it out the door!”
“In that audience, here at Bradford College, I’m sure there is the next superstar and I want to speak to them!”
As for ‘Glow Up’, over the next six weeks eight talented make-up artists will be judged on their creativity and ability to thrive under pressure, through challenges from West End theatre looks to global gaming body painting. The ultimate winner will see their life and career changed forever.
