  Overview

This course will appeal to those who would like an introductory qualification and is designed for learners who may be ready to progress quickly to further study. You can build on the skills and information you already have with our Level 1 Performing Arts Course if you want to work in this field. Along with Maths and English, you will work towards a BTEC Level 1 Award in vocational studies. You will work on a variety of performing arts units.  

The Award offers an introduction to the performing arts sector and this is a practical course that will give you opportunities to present your work in performances over the year. The course provides opportunities for students to explore, develop and test their creativity.  You will be involved in rehearsals and performances to develop your skills, and confidence and to also have fun. All of your work will be based on a portfolio.

The course is based on a Programme of Study, which consists of: 

  • The Vocational Qualification itself
  • English and Maths
  • A Tutorial programme
  • Work Experience
  • Two units must be achieved, one of which must be Developing a Personal Progression Plan (Group A) and one unit from the sector options (Group B) 

Group A: 

  •  Developing a Personal Progression Plan  

Sector Group B units – learners must complete one unit from this group 

  • Using a Stimulus for Performance  
  • Designing Technical Support
  • Providing Technical Support 
  • Performing a Dance Routine 
  • Performing a Piece of Music 
  • Acting in a Performance
  • Personal Preparation for Performance 
  • Rehearsing for a Performance  

You will learn through lectures, online modules (Moodle), group work, electronic resources and external speakers. 

Our experienced staff will deliver a variety of practical workshops focusing on areas such as improvisation, voice and character development which will take place in one of the drama studios. Students will explore the process of responding to a given brief by preparing and presenting performances whilst working as a theatre company. Visits and guest speakers are also used to help enrich your learning experience.
