Bradford College Plays Instrumental Role in Bradford City Kit Releases

Bradford College students and staff have played an instrumental role in the recent releases of Bradford City’s 2024/25 kits.

College representatives, including BA Media Make-Up and BA Fashion students, were in attendance to showcase their skills and feature as extras in special launch videos brought to life across two filming days.

Speaking on behalf of Bradford College, Nicky Betteridge (Senior Business Development Officer), said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain experience as part of such an exciting project. It’s something they can add to their CV, which looks appealing to potential employers. We’d like to thank Bradford City for the opportunity for our students to work on such a unique project. Both the students and staff involved have thoroughly enjoyed their experience.”

First up in May was away shirt filming and a trip over to Sammy’s Cocktail Bar, Manchester to execute a 1970s-themed video – ‘It’s a Retro Thing’.

Then, 10 days later, came the home kit at Marley Sports Centre, Keighley. This time, a team of Bradford College extras took on a Bradford City players 5-a-side team for a video and project titled ‘Paint It Claret & Amber’.

Higher Level College students engaged in key roles across both shoots, executing these to a tee.

BA Media Make-Up students were responsible for player and actor make-up looks matching the video themes, whereas BA Fashion students had their own unique brief of sourcing 70s-inspired clothing to feature in filming.

One Media Make-Up student, Ella Whitehead, spoke more about her experience: “As make-up artists, we were asked to make each and every player look great on camera with natural yet flawless-looking skin. I made sure I had a wide range of products for different skin tones and skin types in my kit so that I could cater to every player and actor. The days were a success and everyone pulled together to do their bit excellently. I was glad to be part of such a lovely experience and I feel honoured to have been chosen by Bradford College staff to participate. I’ve gained lots of valuable experience as a student make-up artist and had a taste of what the industry is really like to work in.”

BA Fashion student, Eloise King, also spoke about her experience on set at Sammy’s Cocktail Bar. She said: “We began with research looking at other sportswear photoshoots and how they had been styled, along with 70s fashion and accessories. We then visited various vintage and first-hand shops to gauge an overview of what was available. From there, we made a list of specific items we felt would be relevant for the shoot and set about purchasing them. It was both fun and inspiring to be involved; I’ve been able to learn a lot behind-the-scenes and meet loads of new people. Thanks to City and the College for the opportunity to source and style, and allowing us to bring the idea to life.”

This is just the latest positive development in an ever-growing partnership between two of Bradford’s key organisations.

Earlier this year, a City team entered our Apprenticeship Games for the second year running and just last month we hosted our annual Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair at the University of Bradford Stadium. As this relationship continues to flourish, things are only set to get better and better over the rest of 2024 and into 2025.
