At the heart of the degree is school experience, and we provide an extensive programme of school placements throughout the course, giving you the opportunity, to practise your teaching skills.   Key Info

Our Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) course is based on and goes beyond the Core Content Framework and progressively leads you to the standards required for recommendation of Qualified Teacher Status at the end of the programme. You will then begin your Early Career Teacher (ECT) phase in your first and second year of employment. Learning and teaching pedagogy runs throughout the course to ensure your professional development is based on a solid theoretical foundation and is built on as you move through each year of study. Course content covers subjects within the National Curriculum and all other relevant statutory frameworks and guidance to enable you to meet the requirements of the Teachers’ Standards and ensure you are a strong teaching candidate. We encourage you to take responsibility for your own personal and professional development and offer you high quality support from personal tutors. School-based training School experience is a vital part of your teacher training programme. A key strength of the course is how theory and practice are related by working with children in placement schools -with support provided by experienced mentors. School placements are compliant with DfE criteria and will be arranged for you within the Primary age range. Every effort is made to ensure that the most appropriate placements are chosen for each trainee to enhance their professional development. We have strong links with local schools, whose staff make a significant contribution to your training. Placement schools are situated in Bradford and the neighbouring areas to give a wide range of experience and to meet the needs of students from across the region.

Entry to this course requires GCSEs in English Language or Literature, Maths and a Science at grade 4 (C) or above. Please note that in accordance with DfE guidance, qualifications in key and functional skills at level 2 are not equivalent to GCSEs in terms of content and therefore do not meet the minimum entry requirements of the course. By the end of your training in school you will be expected to have met the Teachers’ Standards and a Summative Assessment will be made using the standards as a benchmark. When you meet the Teachers’ Standards, you are then recommended for QTS by Leeds Trinity University as our accredited ITT training provider.
