  Overview

This course has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in schools or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development supporting positive behaviour, communication and professional relationships. It is aimed at learners working in roles that support pupil’s learning in primary, secondary schools as well as colleges. It prepares learners for employment. Learners will need to be working or on practical placement throughout the qualification as they need to learn skills and show competency.

  Qualification Gained: Northern Council for Further Education Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning

Entry to this course requires GCSE English at a minimum grade of 3 or D or Level 1 Functional Skills English. Even though a Maths qualification is not a requirement for the course, it would be desirable that you are working towards a GCSE grade 3 or D or Level 1 Functional Skills. You must be working or on a practical placement for the duration of the course. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.

You will be required to develop a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your competence and underpinning knowledge relating to the units. Approved Assessors will carry out assessments in the workplace. This will be supplemented by other types of evidence as well as written assignments.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment in Education and Teaching.
