Overview

Gain hands-on knowledge and real-world experience with our Foundation T Level: Science course, designed for students eager to pursue careers in the science industry.

This course builds a strong foundation in core subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics, alongside practical investigative skills and laboratory science. With a focus on both classroom learning and work-related experiences, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to progress onto the full T Level Science course. 

Successful students will earn a BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Principles of Applied Science, setting you up for further education or a career in the field.

Core Subjects:

  • GCSE Maths: Learn key Maths skills for lab work, like calculating medication dosages.
  • GCSE English: Develop communication skills for working with patients, colleagues, and lab professionals.
  • Digital Skills: Gain basic digital skills for using lab equipment and medical records.

Specialist Pathway Subjects:

  • Study the basics of biochemistry, microbiology, and pharmacology, and get introduced to diagnostic techniques like lab testing, imaging, and medical instruments.

Practical Work Experience:

  • Take part in industry placements to apply your knowledge in real lab settings under expert supervision.

Employability Skills:

  • Build teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and professional ethics skills needed to work effectively in a lab.

You will learn knowledge and understanding of scientific theories, concepts and principles such as: 

  • Principles of Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) exam
  • Chemistry and Our Earth
  • Energy and Our Universe
  • Biology and Our Environment 

Laboratory analysis techniques include:

  • Laboratory Testing Methods
  • Health and Safety
  • Understanding and Using Information and Data

Entry requirements are 5 GCSEs at grade 3, including Maths
and English.

Assessment includes examination and assignments.

60 hours of work experience in a scientific environment of student’s choice.
