School of Performance and Music’s Performing Arts Degree Experience Day

  10th May 2022, 10:00am - 1:00pm

The new Yorkshire School of Performance and Music is opening its doors to all those interested in one of their degrees in Performing Arts. Whether you are completing you’re A-Levels, Level 3 Extended, or someone of looking to get into the Performing Arts, all are welcome regardless of age or experience.

The Experience Day will include the opportunity to take part in two workshops, a practical Theatre Making session then a dedicated session on TV acting run by Thomas Aldersley in the school’s state of the art TV studio.

Former Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks actor Thomas Aldersley is Programme Leader for the Performing Arts courses at The Yorkshire School of Performance and Music. He and colleagues are welcoming members of the public along to the session. Participants will be able to get hands-on with performing arts to understand more about whether this might be the right course for them.

Tom has created a course, based on his 17 years’ experience in the industry, that will give students the training they need to walk straight on to a TV set, whilst also being able to create and gain funding for their own work. This means students not only gain essential skills in acting and performance, but also how to create, write, direct and produce their own work for both live and recorded media.

The course includes training in Method Acting, TV and Film Acting, Content Creation, Work Experience, Teaching, Entrepreneurial skills, Musical Theatre and of course Performance Projects. The latter directed by visiting industry directors.

Tom said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for Performing Arts in the north of England. In response to this we have launched a dedicated training centre to the Performing Arts and Music. With major global players such as the BBC, Channel 4 announcing they are moving more of their operation to the north, including a new northern soap opera, and nearly every Channel 5 programme is in Yorkshire!”

“We have applicants and students of all ages and experience. We’ve got students with children, jobs outside of the course and many other commitments. The degree’s flexibility offers a wonderful opportunity for any mature students wanting to return to education.”

The Experience Day will take place on Tuesday 10th May between 10am and 1pm at The Yorkshire School of Performance and Music, The Lister Building, Great Horton Road, Bradford, BD7 1AY.

If you would like a place on the Experience Day please contact Tom Aldersley, Programme Leader, Performing Arts, at [email protected] or book a ticket through Eventbrite.

*Experience day is open to anyone aged 16+, if you are younger than this and wish to become involved in our performing arts outreach programme, please contact Tom.
