A Student’s Guide to Clearing

The Clearing process can often feel like a daunting last-minute scramble, but it doesn’t have to be. Clearing 2024 is a fantastic opportunity for students to secure a place at university if their original plans haven’t worked out as hoped. Whether you didn’t get the grades you expected, have had a change of heart about your course, or are applying late, Clearing can help you find the right path.

Here’s a comprehensive guide to navigating Clearing 2024 and a spotlight on Bradford College, a potential destination for your educational journey.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a process managed by UCAS that matches unplaced students with available college/university places. It typically runs from mid-July to mid-October. If you didn’t receive any offers or didn’t meet the conditions of your offers, you can use Clearing to find a new course.

6 Steps to Navigate Clearing

1. Stay Calm

First and foremost, take a deep breath. Not getting your first-choice university or course is not the end of the world. Many students find their ideal match through Clearing.

2. Check Your Eligibility

You are eligible for Clearing if you apply after 30 June, didn’t receive any offers, declined all your offers, or didn’t meet the conditions of your offers.

3. Research Available Courses

Use the UCAS Clearing search tool to find available courses. Be open-minded and consider courses related to your original choice. Check college/university websites for the most current information.

4. Contact Universities

Once you’ve found a course you’re interested in, contact the college/university directly. Have your UCAS ID, grades, and questions ready. Treat it like an interview – be polite and show your enthusiasm for the course.

5. Accept an Offer

If a college/university offers you a place and you want to accept it, you can add the Clearing choice in your UCAS application. This finalises your new placement.

6. Consider Accommodation and Finances

After securing a place, arrange accommodation and update your student finance application if needed. Colleges and universities often have dedicated support for Clearing students.
