  Overview

This course aims to develop your English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, either for work, further study or everyday life. You will study a variety of communication, reading and writing tasks. We can offer support at Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, and Level 1 on this programme. 

The course will develop three key skills: Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening. Your attendance for 3 hours (Entry level 1-3) each week is mandatory and you must complete additional work outside of class time.

This course is free and takes place at the David Hockney Building.

  Qualification Gained: City and Guilds of London Institute Functional Skills Qualification in English (Entry 1)

You will be given an initial assessment to check your starting point and determine your suitability for this course. 

Assessment of your progress is throughout the course. You will be assessed according to the level of the qualification. This can vary from an internally marked assessment to externally marked exams.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto a higher level English course, or any other course that will help get the job you want, or support your personal development.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.
