  Overview

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians is for learners who are employed in the role of pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician. Pharmacy Technicians work in a wide range of settings, including (but not exclusively): registered pharmacies, community services, justice (the Prison Service), GP Practices, dispensing doctors’ practices, care homes and clinical commissioning groups, hospitals, mental health, defence (HM Armed Services) and within the pharmaceutical industry. They prepare medicines and other healthcare products for the supply to patients. They also take an active role in providing patients with guidance on taking medicines.

Attendance is required for one day per week for live lessons in a virtual classroom.

 The training consists of two years of consecutive work-based experience under the direction of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician for not less than 14 hours per week.

  Qualification Gained: Edexcel BTEC Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians

Entry to this course requires four  GCSEs at Grade A*-C/ 9-4, three of which must include English language, Mathematics and one Science subject Biology or Chemistry (please contact us if it is a Physics qualification). 

You must be working for a UK registered pharmacist in a pharmacy for a minimum of 14 hours per week to participate in this course. These are the requirements of the Pharmacy Regulator. 

You will be required to have a PC with access to the Internet in the workplace.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.
