  Key Info

Our official City and Guilds courses will set you on the right path to becoming a fully qualified joiner. Different woods do different jobs and the way you have to work with them to get the perfect finish is a real skill. Our teachers are all industry experts, with years of experience and they are ready to share their tips and knowledge with you. We have great relationships with some of the biggest joinery companies in Bradford and our joinery work experience programme is second to none.

Qualification Gained: City and Guilds of London Institute Extended Certificate in Construction Skills

Entry to this course requires GCSE Maths and English at a grade 2. Please note that you will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops. Prior to enrolment on the course, please make sure you have access to these resources.

You will be assessed by the successfully completion of an assignment for each mandatory unit and in the well-equipped workshop for the practical assessments.

Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. You will be learning your skills in the workshop before applying them on our college construction site. We have set up a simulated building site on our construction campus so you can get a real flavour of working life on-site. We make sure that we give you opportunities to develop your leadership skills and prepare you for Higher Education and a career in professional construction. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies, such as our award-winning local partner Priestley Construction.

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study, apprenticeships or you may progress into employment. A carpenter/joiner/builder has the potential to earn anywhere between £12K and £40K per year. Working in the construction industry could see you constructing and managing major buildings, structures and facilities. Career opportunities are available through large construction contractors and smaller specialist employers in the public and private sectors. You could also train to become your own boss and become self-employed.
