This course provides you with comprehensive training designed specifically for adult learners entering the electrical industry. It balances theoretical knowledge with practical skills and professional behaviours essential for successful employment. It provides you with the essential knowledge and skills required to begin a career as an installation electrician which combines theoretical understanding with practical skills development in the workshop, preparing you for both further study on level 2 or in the workplace through an apprenticeship.

You will learn how to follow health and safety practices, know and use tools and equipment for wiring and terminations, and connect using different types of electrical materials, components and equipment. You will be able to hone your hand skills in the workshop by measuring and marking out, terminating a range of wiring systems to equipment and installing different wiring enclosures. This will include the basic understanding and techniques for circuit testing, including continuity, polarity and insulation resistance.
There are no entry requirements for level 1
however the course uses contextualized maths and English within the syllabus.
If you are progressing to level 2 and 3, the requirement for maths and English
is a GCSE Grade 4+/C+, Functional Skills (Level 2), Key Skills (Level 2), Adult
Numeracy/Literacy (Level 2) or equivalent.
You will undertake online multiple-choice and short-answer question exams and demonstrate your skills in the electrical workshop and assessment centre. You will be installing a range of wiring systems and enclosures and terminating these to a range of electrical equipment. You will also be demonstrating a range of health and safety techniques including safe isolation, manual handling and the use of ladders.
Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies.
Successful completion of your course can lead to further study, apprenticeships or you may progress into employment. A domestic Electrician has the potential to earn up to 40K per year.
Other Costs: Please note that you will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high-visibility vest when working in the electrical workshops. Prior to starting this course, please make sure you have access to these resources.
