  Overview

Britain is a multilingual society and there are members of our different  communities who have a limited grasp of spoken English. Many members of our (British) society are able to function in more than one language and this course present an exciting opportunity to use and enhance your skills and join an exciting world of work that supports people.  The course is accredited by NCFE through the completion of a portfolio of evidence and/or course assessment. You will be required to complete an Individual Initial Assessment at the start of your course. We offer courses at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 in Community Interpreting. This qualification allows learners to develop their considerable skills to help others to overcome linguistic barriers in everyday situations, such as accessing education, health services, housing, justice, and other public services.

The aims of the course are:

  • To understand the role of the Community Interpreter.
  • To learn about the sectors where interpreters may be required to work.
  • To develop and practice sight translation.
  • To demonstrate the skills of two-way interpreting. To learn how to develop and enhance your own performance.

The areas covered by the course are: Education, Health, Social Services, Immigration, Housing and Welfare-Benefit System.


  Qualification Gained: ASCENTIS Award in Understanding Community Interpreting

There are no entry requirements for this course apart from an interest in the subject and the ability to commit to positive behaviours and attendance. You will have a 1-1 meeting with a member of our team to ensure it is the right course for you.

The course will be assessed through a portfolio of work which you will develop during your time at college.
