Our introductory course in Electrical Installation provides you with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to secure a job in the electrical industry. It focuses on a hands-on experience whilst maintaining strict adherence to safety and industry standards. Like a domestic electrician working in a dwelling, you will demonstrate understanding of basic electrical principles, identify and use common electrical tools and equipment safely, install basic electrical circuits and components, perform basic electrical testing. All this electrical installation work will be applied to relevant health and safety regulations within the work environment.

You will learn about the importance of health and safety in the construction industry, how to minimise the risk of accidents caused by hazards and the types of construction methods used in construction including sustainability. You will also learn the types of activities and job opportunities and set up/maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Entry to this course requires GCSE Maths and English at a grade 2 as a minimum.
You will demonstrate your skills in the electrical workshop and assessment centre that start off easy, and get more and more technical as you progress. You will be terminating and connecting cables, measuring, cutting and bending of PVC conduit and installing lighting and socket circuits. When you are ready, you will be a key player in the construction projects we run with employers in our active learning areas that simulate a real-life construction site.
Your course may include experience of work or a work placement that could lead to the offer of part-time, voluntary or casual work. You might be able to work outside of your studies. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies within the local community.
Successful completion of this course can lead to our Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation, employment or an Apprenticeship.
