This practical, work-related, course provides you with a good understanding and knowledge of the Travel & Tourism industry, will improve your skills and prepare you to progress onto a higher level course. It is suitable for school leavers who are interested in pursuing a career in the Travel & Tourism industry. You’ll need to be enthusiastic and interested in developing your customer service and communication skills and be willing to participate in group and practical activities. The course provides you with the opportunity to go on a number of local visits and to give you a solid grounding in the industry before you progress onto Level 2, or if you want to gain an industry insight before choosing a career. Our experienced staff will deliver a combination of theory and practical learning and you will also carry out independent student research. You will develop your industry specific skills through the use of the latest travel industry atlases, directories and manuals. You will also get the opportunity to do work experience. You will develop key skills in Customer Service, Employability Skills, English and Maths Skills, Geographical Knowledge, Group Work Skills, Information Gathering Skills and Public Speaking Skills.
The entry requirements for this course are GCSE English and Maths at grade 2. English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course. Please note that this course includes compulsory day-trips (both locally and regionally) that you will have to pay for. The cost of these visits over the course of the year will be about £80. Destinations include the local area, Blackpool, Leeds and York. You will also have to purchase a study pack (including a lever arch file, dividers, plastic wallets, general stationery and a Flash Drive) and these must be brought with you for each session. This will cost approximately £10. Please note that you are required to wear a uniform whilst studying on this course, comprising of plain black trousers/skirt (no leggings) and smart shoes (no trainers) which you can source yourself. You will have to purchase from us a uniform pack that includes a Bradford College branded formal shirt and tie/scarf, polo shirt and fleece jacket and a stationery pack. These items must be bought before the course starts and worn/brought from the first day of induction. The approximate cost for these items is £30-£40.
The work you do on this course will be internally assessed but there will be a small number of online tests. Ongoing assessment takes place throughout the course to enable you to develop a portfolio of evidence. Typical assessments will be in the form of:
Our courses offer work experience in the relevant field for your career aspirations. Our students work in partnership with the National Citizens Service (NCS) programme which helps to develop key employment skills and behaviours needed for progression to work.
Successful completion of our Travel, Aviation, Hospitality and Events courses offer progression to further study as well as employment. Depending upon the industry that you would like to specialise in, careers include: Air Crew, Holiday Representative, Tour Guide and Event Support and Management.
