Please note that you will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high-visibility vest when working in the workshops. Prior to starting this course, please make sure you have access to these resources.
Entry to this course requires GCSE Math’s and English Language at a grade 4 as a minimum.
This course is assessed through a mix of theory exams and practical work, followed by a final practical exam.
Your progress will be evaluated through:
- Practical Tasks: You will complete hands-on tasks in a workshop setting, covering a range of developmental construction skills. These tasks are designed to reflect real-world scenarios and industry standards.
- Observation: Instructors will observe learners you perform these tasks, assessing your techniques, accuracy, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Presentations: You are required to present their work for assessment, explaining the methods and materials used, as well as any challenges faced and how they were overcome.
Theory
A series of multiple-choice unit end tests accompany the practical tasks, allowing you to document your processes and, reflect on your performance in theory side of construction.
After completing this course, you’ll be ready to pursue:
- Apprenticeships in carpentry, bricklaying, or other construction trades.
- Roles such as site carpenter, bricklayer, or construction laborer.
