will enable mature students to bridge the gap between Level 2 and Level 3; this
allow students to progress on to the level 3 Applied Science Adult course.
Students will undertake a baseline assessment to establish their starting point.
The first part of this bridging programme will a recap of Level 1 with a key
focus on core science concepts and knowledge before moving on to the level 2
topics.

This course has a core
of underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding and is broken into 3
subject areas, Chemistry, Biology and Physics with specialised tutors to
support in each of these specific science strands. Specialised tutors will
teach each science section with hands on practical work in our well-equipped laboratories.
Chemistry: Atomic structure, Bonding, The periodic table, Trends of the periodic table, Lab techniques.
Biology: Cell structure and function, Microscopes, Cell specialisation, Digestive system, Tissue structure and function, Function of nervous tissue, Diseases
Physics: Energy, Working with waves, Electricity, Electrical circuits, Wave speed, Waves in communication
Entry to this course requires a grade 3 GCSE in English Language and
Maths or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
· You must be aged 19
or over.
Assessment includes assignments, internal exams
and practicals.
Successful completion of this course can allow you to progress on
to BTEC Level 3 National Foundation in Applied Science. Completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science allows for
progression within the College to our HND in Chemistry, Biology or
Environmental Science as well as routes into University.
