This course blends classroom learning with hands-on, practical, and outdoor activities, giving you the confidence and skills you need for a future in these essential services.

Entry requirements are GCSE English at Grade 3 and GCSE Maths at Grade 2 or above

You’ll attend a two-day assessment, which includes tests in Maths and English, a physical assessment, and an evaluation of your self-discipline.  If you haven’t achieved a grade 3 or higher in GCSE English or Maths, these subjects will be included in your timetable.

We also welcome applications from mature students who can show us they have the necessary skills and experience to succeed on the course.

You’ll need to buy and wear a uniform, and there will be compulsory trips that you’ll have to pay for. Additionally, you’ll need to pay £60 for travel during outdoor activities, and you must have a pair of walking boots. Waterproof clothing is recommended for your comfort.

Your progress will be evaluated through:

  • Written Assignments and Task books
  • Practical demonstration
  • Assessed activities

On this course you’ll have the opportunity to attend engaging lectures and discussions with experts from different Public Service organisations. Plus, you’ll have the chance to participate in thrilling activities like Police Riot Training and British Army Day.

If you’re into sports, join the College’s Sports Academies and gym, and compete in exciting Public Services sports events. You’ll also get to experience hands-on learning in the local community and explore the countryside.

After completing this course, you’ll be ready to pursue:

  • Progression to our Level 3 Uniformed Public Services course.
  • Roles such as firefighter, soldier or police officer.
