This course is suitable for students over the age of 19 who wish to develop a portfolio of art, media and design-related work so that they can continue studying arts in Higher Education.
Experiences could include drawing, printmaking, graphic design, ceramics, textile design, photography and ICT. An introduction to these disciplines will develop your individual creative potential in a supportive environment enabling you to develop concepts, take creative risks and understand techniques and processes.
The course allows and encourages students to build a portfolio of work to meet university requirements.

By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Conduct research to inform and support design decisions, demonstrating an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural influences on art and design.
- Demonstrate proficiency in visual language through the effective use of composition, color, typography, and form to communicate ideas and concepts clearly and creatively.
- Apply design principles to create functional and aesthetically engaging works, integrating knowledge of design theory and practice.
- Develop and present 3D art and design projects
- Utilize graphic communication skills
- Explore printmaking techniques and processes to produce original prints, understanding their artistic and practical applications in contemporary design.
- Manipulate and edit images using industry-standard software, demonstrating skills in image enhancement, composition, and adaptation for diverse purposes.
- Organize and curate a final exhibition that effectively showcases a body of work
- Enhance academic and creative study skills to work independently, manage time effectively, and critically reflect on personal progress and development.

A minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a portfolio of art work.
Assessment on Access programmes involves a range of methods such as essays, presentations, reports and research investigations.You will have a combination of 15 ungraded and 45 graded units. For the graded units you will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
You will develop skills in independent research, critical thinking and evaluative skills, study skills, interview skills and interpersonal skills. You will develop the necessary skills to progress onto Higher Education. We will introduce you to the UCAS system and provide tutorial sessions for university applications.
