This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively teach mathematics in a range of settings. This qualification is ideal for educators who want to enhance their numeracy teaching capabilities, whether in academic, personal, public, professional, or vocational settings.

The course enables you to gain a deeper understanding of how to integrate mathematics into real-world contexts and educational environments, supporting the development of numeracy skills among diverse learners.

The course is ideal for PSET (Post-16 Education and Training) trainees, both current and future, as it is fully recognized by The Society for Education and Training (SET) towards achieving QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills). Additionally, it provides a valuable bridging opportunity for specialist PSET students who do not yet hold a Level 3 specialist qualification.

Completing this qualification will significantly enhance your ability to embed maths instruction in your teaching practice, helping them meet the minimum core requirements for your teacher training. The course also includes a substantial online component, making it accessible for regional and national recruitment, and providing flexibility for learners across a wider geographic area.

  • Using Mathematics in Academic Subjects – This unit focuses on the application of mathematics within academic disciplines, enabling learners to teach students how mathematical concepts are used across various subject areas and integrate numeracy into academic learning effectively.
  • Using Mathematics in Personal and Public Life – This unit is aimed at equipping learners to teach mathematics in ways that enhance everyday decision-making and problem-solving. It focuses on practical applications, such as budgeting, managing finances, and interpreting public data, preparing students for numeracy challenges in daily life.
  • Using Mathematics in Professional and Vocational Contexts – This unit explores the application of mathematics in professional and vocational settings, helping learners understand how numeracy is essential for success in specific careers or trades, and how to teach Level 3 Award in Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching aligns with current educational standards, supports ongoing professional development, and helps educators embed mathematical thinking into their teaching practices. It is an essential qualification for those looking to develop their expertise in teaching numeracy skills and promoting the importance of mathematics in a range of settings.

GCSE English L4/ GCSE Maths L4/demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience to ensure they have the potential to gain the qualifications.  Level 2 qualification in English.

 A blend of delivery some online with a range of assessment methods Portfolio of evidence. Externally set and internally marked assessments will be available for some units, which may be used but are not mandatory.

Level 3 in Education & Training. Generic and specialist Level 5 PSET quals (CertEd) or PGDip (Level 7) English specialism.
