Delivered in our brand-new nursery environment, this course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment, higher-level technical training or study in the education and early years sector. You will learn all about important topics such as safeguarding, child development, special educational needs and the role of families and support agencies.
This qualification enables you to build a strong skillset, providing a platform for future careers relevant to this area. We deliver the occupational specialism in Early Years Education and Early Years, which will consist of both classroom-based and practical learning.
You will develop a rounded knowledge and relevant set of skills that are favoured amongst employers in this sector.
By the end of this course, you will:
Understand the key concepts and roles within education and early years settings.
Understand policies and practices that govern education and childcare, including safeguarding.
Completed a project that integrates education and early years principles, demonstrating practical skills and insights.
Entry to this course requires 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above and must include English and Maths.
Assessment compromises of 2 core exams in in year 1 plus and employer set project. In your first year you will cover knowledge and underpinning concepts, theories and principles as well as core skills for the education and childcare sector from birth to 18 years of age. In your second year, in your occupation specialism year, your exams are based around practical skills around observation, assessment and planning. Across both years you will have observations of practical skills in placement for your portfolio for your licence to practice.
You must complete 100 days (750 hours) of relevant and enriching work experience within the early years sector over the two years of this course. Work experience is mandatory to gain your license to practice and gain your T Level Qualification. You will also have a mentor in the workplace. In college you will have workshops every week with a Placement Assessor who will support you in developing your skills and who will observe you in the workplace. Our work experience team has secured work placements with award winning nursery group Kids Planet and St Edmunds & Lilycroft
Successful completion of your T Level qualification enables you to be employed as a level 3 educator within early years and nursery school settings, and is your full licence to practice. You will also be able to progress into higher level study at university dependent on your grades. Your T Level is equivalent to 3 A-levels and will be graded from Pass to Distinction Star.
Potential career paths may include Primary Teaching and relevant degrees such as Psychology, Play work and Child Development, Children’s Social Work and Children’s Nursing.
