On this course you’ll develop essential skills for protective services through a mix of classroom learning and hands-on experience. This includes self-defence training, crime scene investigation, security procedures, and adventurous land and water activities. You’ll also explore mental health and wellbeing, sports coaching, speed and parking awareness training, and work closely with the police.
This course is part of Bradford College’s exclusive Ambition [HUB], a Level 3 stretch and challenge for selected students. Alongside your main course, you’ll join employer-led masterclasses, work on an industry project, and gain 160 hours of work experience, giving you a competitive career edge.

Pre-Entry Phase Training Programme
As you start your studies, you’ll have the chance to join our Pre-Entry Phase Training Programme alongside the Uniformed Services course. This extra training gives you a mix of classroom learning and hands-on experience.
You’ll build skills in military fieldwork, problem-solving, communication, and bushcraft — all designed to prepare you for a career in the uniformed services.
You’ll also learn basic tactics and resilience techniques to help you handle real-life situations. This programme will boost your confidence, strengthen your skills, and set you on the path to success in the uniformed services.
Your progress will be evaluated through:

Hands-on training for your future career!
On this course must complete 160 hours work experience, where you’ll dive into the world of work and gain the skills employers are looking for. You will:
- Get hands-on and work on real projects
- Boost your confidence and learn how to plan tasks, meet deadlines, and make smart decisions.
- Collaborate with professionals and see how great ideas come to life when people work together.
- Understand how to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
- Be part of a workplace that values diversity and promotes equality.
With this, you’ll have hands-on experience to showcase on your CV, demonstrating your industry skills to employers.
Day visits, guest speakers / workshops and residentials with the Uniformed Services are all included within this timeframe and your tutors and our work placement officers will arrange these for you.
After completing this course, you’ll be ready to pursue:
- Higher Apprenticeships in areas like Policing, Fire and Rescue, Paramedics, or the Armed Forces.
- University Degrees in subjects such as Criminology, Policing, Public Services, Emergency Planning, or Law.
- Roles such as Police Officer, Firefighter, Paramedic, Prison Officer, Customs Officer, or a member of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, RAF, or Royal Marines).
