Overview

This course is suited to learners with a genuine interest in a career within the Uniformed Protective Services including: Fire, Police, Ambulance, Prison, Customs and the Armed Services (British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines).

The qualification is intended to support progression to further study and accessing higher education. It is also equally suited for learners to progress to employment in the uniformed protective services. This course supports the shift towards increased graduate employment in the sector. The course is stimulating and varied, as it combines classroom-based study with exciting practical and outdoor activities, alongside numerous experiences with the uniformed services themselves.

This course is part of our Ambition Hub programme. This additional programme is designed to give students a ‘career edge’, delivered through a range of employer partner masterclasses, in addition to the normal learning programme.

Pre-Entry Phase Training Programme

As you embark on your studies, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to participate in our comprehensive Pre-Entry Phase Training Programme. This program runs in conjunction with our Uniformed Services course, providing you with a well-rounded and immersive learning experience.

Through a combination of theoretical teachings and hands-on practical training, you will have the chance to enhance your skills in a variety of areas. From military field skills and problem-solving to effective communication and bush craft, our training curriculum is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge and abilities needed for a successful career in the uniformed services.

Additionally, you will learn elementary tactics and resilience techniques, preparing you for the challenges of real-life scenarios. Join us in this unique program that will enrich your learning journey and set a strong foundation for your future in the uniformed services.

NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services (720 GLH)

To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services (720 GLH), you must successfully complete the Level 3 Certificate for Entry in Uniformed Services, which constitutes Year 1 of the qualification. In addition, learners are required to complete a further six optional units in Year 2.

Unit 17: Skills for Water-Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Year 2

Unit 10: Understand Conflict Management and Personal Protection

Unit 13: Emergency Planning and Response in the Uniformed Services

Unit 15: Sports Coaching

Unit 16: Skills for Land-Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Unit 21: Crime Scene Investigation

Unit 25: Security Procedures in the Uniformed Services

To be eligible for this course, applicants must have achieved a minimum of Grade 4 / C in GCSE English and a minimum of a 3 in Maths.  Individuals academic performance will always be considered when determining the most suitable programme for each learner. Additionally, possessing a related qualification, such as the NCFE Level 2 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services or an equivalent, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing careers within the uniformed services or further studies in related fields of Higher Education.  A strong academic track record from previous college courses or schools attended will also be considered favourably.

Your progress and work will be internally assessed and as well as an externally quality assured portfolio of evidence.

It is expected you will cover up to 160 hours work experience on the course. This will include specific placement on experiences with a range of uniformed services. Day visits, guest speakers / workshops and residentials with the Uniformed Services are all included within this timeframe and your tutors and our work placement officers will arrange these for you.

After successfully completing the NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services (720 GLH), you will gain UCAS points and could progress onto 

Level 4 Diploma
