  Overview

This module (short course) is an ideal introduction to computer programming.

Delivered through blended learning – a combination of face-to-face and online delivery sessions.

The course is designed to teach you fundamental programming concepts, including writing, testing, and debugging code, as well as exploring various programming languages and paradigms.  

Content includes an introduction to algorithms, procedural,
object-oriented, and event-driven programming, security considerations, the
integrated development environment (IDE), and the debugging process.

The module can be taken as a standalone course, or if you wish, you can take another module. All courses carry credits, which count towards a HNC if you wish to gain a qualification in this field.

By the end of this course, you will:
  • Understand and apply core programming concepts across multiple languages.
  • Develop and troubleshoot code using object-oriented and modular approaches.
  • Implement efficient data structures and algorithms to solve problems.
  • Build foundational web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Present a final project demonstrating their cumulative skills in coding, problem-solving, and software design.
This course provides a pathway to more advanced programming courses, as well as entry-level software development roles and internships.

The assessment will range between written assignments, group work, and individual and group presentations.

Each module is worth 15 credits.  If you successfully complete one, two or three modules, you will receive a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC) upon completion of the individual units.  If you finish 8 units, you will awarded a HNC.  You can progress onto other units, and then onto a HNC or HND. 

HE Tuition: £1,000.00 per academic year
