  Overview

This short course provides you with a deep understanding of the methodologies, stages, and best practices in software development. Covering popular SDLC models like Agile, Waterfall, and DevOps, this program emphasizes practical skills in planning, analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance.

You will gain hands-on experience in managing and contributing to software projects, preparing you for roles in software development and project management.

This short course can be delivered as part of a longer programme (HNC) or can be completed as a standalone module.  It is delivered through blended learning which means a combination of face to face and online delivery sessions.

By the end of this course, students will:

  1. Understand the phases and importance of various software development life cycles and select appropriate models for different projects.
  2. Gather and document project requirements effectively to support planning and scope definition.
  3. Design system architecture and prototypes to meet functional and user needs.
  4. Write and manage code following best practices, utilizing version control systems.
  5. Create and execute testing plans for quality assurance and understand the role of feedback in software development.
  6. Complete a comprehensive project demonstrating knowledge of SDLC stages, producing documentation and implementing key project tasks.

The assessment will range between written assignments, group work, and individual and group presentations.

Each module is worth 15 credits.  If you successfully complete one, two or three modules, you will receive a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC) upon completion of the individual units.  If you finish 8 units, you will awarded a HNC.  You can progress onto other units, and then onto a HNC or HND.
