Prep4Work partnership to help transform lives

Life-changing vocational academies have been launched, supporting adults with all aspects of getting a job, gaining qualifications and building their CV.

The Prep4Work Club is a partnership between Bradford College’s Forster College, Bradford Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Duncan Burnett, Curriculum Area Manager for Community and Distance Learning at Bradford College, said: “The partnership supports adults aged 19 and over to start their journey into employment and to find a job. The clubs can also help upskill people who are already in work and enable them to gain a promotion.”

Prep4Work supports people in two age categories, 19 – 49 and 50+. It can help with setting up an email account, managing their Universal Credit account and building a good CV. People on this course will also develop interview skills, so they can show employers how their newfound skills and confidence can benefit their business.

Prep4Work’s academies enable people to train and gain qualifications in areas including:

  • Warehousing
  • Customer services
  • ITQ computing quals
  • AAT level 1 bookkeeping/business
  • Community interpreting
  • Health and social care
  • Dementia care
  • Support working
  • Mental health awareness training

As well as developing functional skills in English and maths, Prep4Work can also build up confidence and skills in IT. There is also help and advice available for people who are currently claiming benefits.

Prep4Work not only supports people into work but also employers in the area. Duncan said: “Just tell us what you need and we will train your applicants over one to four weeks.

“We can prepare them for interview and support them to gain health and safety and level 2 food hygiene, plus any other sector-based qualifications that employers may require.”
